This year BMW will be celebrating it’s 100 year anniversary of building some of the finest premium motorcycles in the world.
BMW started out manufacturing aircraft engines in 1913. Then in 1919, just after setting a new altitude world record at over 32,000 feet, the Treaty of Versailles was signed and BMW was ordered to stop manufacturing aircraft engines. That’s when BMW’s focus changed to producing motorcycle engines. In 1923 the first production BMW motorcycle was unveiled at the German Motor Show in Berlin. Legendary designer Max Friz designed the BMW R32 motorcycle. The R32 was a 486cc flat twin powered motorcycle that reached a top speed of 60mph.
From then on, BMW Motorrad has been empowering riders to “Make Life a Ride” for 100 years. To celebrate 100 years of BMW Motorrad, BMW has unveiled two anniversary edition motorcycles linked to the legendary boxer engine. The R nineT 100 Years Edition and the R 18 100 Years Edition. Both models featuring unique paint finishes and numerous other components to compliment the look. To go along with these beautiful special edition motorcycles is a compliment of Edition 100 Years clothing and accessories. BMW’s history is based on a lot of the same principles as Motos America. Those principles are about people sharing a passion. The passion to get behind the handlebars and seek out adventure and excitement, aiming to revolutionize the industry with great ideas, all while enjoying the feeling of being on two wheels.
